About the Role
Esteem Educators delivers specialist 1-to-1 Alternative Provision for children and young people who are temporarily unable to access or engage with mainstream education. We work with learners from diverse backgrounds and age ranges, supporting a broad spectrum of needs including SEND, SEMH, emotional wellbeing needs, trauma, anxiety and school avoidance.
This is a high-responsibility, relationship-led role. Support is often delivered independently in community settings, homes, or alternative environments.
This role is not classroom-based, not observational, and not a teaching assistant role. You will be the primary adult responsible for supporting each young person during sessions.
Key Responsibilities
- You will provide 1-to-1 mentoring and educational support for young people with SEND and additional needs, including autism, ADHD, learning differences, SEMH, anxiety, trauma, and disengagement from education.
- You will build strong, professional, and appropriately boundaried relationships with pupils, offering a safe, consistent, and supportive presence.
- You will support emotional regulation, engagement, confidence, routines, and readiness to learn.
- You will deliver structured sessions aligned to individual learning plans, EHCP outcomes (where applicable), and personalised goals.
- You will transport pupils safely to and from sessions when required.
- You will complete accurate daily logs, attendance records, and safeguarding documentation.
- You will communicate effectively with schools, local authorities, parents/carers, and internal safeguarding and engagement teams.
- You will follow safeguarding procedures and escalate concerns appropriately.
Who This Role Is For
This role is suited to applicants with prior, hands-on experience supporting children or young people with SEND and/or complex needs.
This may include experience as a teaching assistant (SEND or SEMH), support worker, care professional, youth worker, mentor, residential care worker, or similar pastoral role.
This role is not suitable for graduates without relevant experience or for those seeking classroom-only, assistant-based, or observational roles.
Essential Requirements (Non-Negotiable)
- You must have experience working directly with young people with SEND, SEMH, behavioural, emotional, or mental health needs.
- You must be confident working independently on a 1-to-1 basis.
- You must have strong safeguarding awareness and professional boundaries.
- You must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to your own vehicle at all times.
- You must have business insurance that allows pupil transport.
- You must hold an Enhanced DBS or be willing to obtain one.
What We Offer
- A meaningful role making a direct impact on vulnerable young people.
- Clear systems, safeguarding support, and leadership oversight.
- Ongoing training and professional development.
- A supportive, values-led team culture.
- Flexible working patterns where possible.

Due to the nature of the role, applicants without a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle will not be considered.
