Location: Lancaster (LA2)
Pay: £14.20 per hour

Opportunity

A specialist residential college is looking for graduates to join their team, gain invaluable experience supporting young people with additional needs, and begin a rewarding career, with the opportunity to transition into a permanent role.

Hours: Full-time (average of 40 hours per week, with additional hours potentially available). The role involves a rotating shift pattern, including days, evenings, weekends, waking nights, and occasional sleep-in shifts as required.

About the Role

We are looking for compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Residential College Support Workers, supporting young people aged 16–25 with additional needs within a specialist residential college. This role combines both learning support and residential welfare support, helping students succeed both in and outside of the classroom.

You’ll support young people with learning disabilities, autism, and other additional needs who live on campus while attending college. Your role will be to help them develop independence, confidence, and essential life skills while ensuring they feel safe, supported, and empowered within their residential home.

This is an excellent opportunity for graduates interested in careers in education, SEND, psychology, social care, or youth work who are looking to gain meaningful, hands-on experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students with daily living skills, including cooking, personal care routines, budgeting, and organisation.
  • Encouraging independence and helping students achieve their individual goals.
  • Providing emotional support and building positive, trusting relationships.
  • Supporting evening, weekend, night-time and residential activities.
  • Completing waking night or occasional sleep-in duties where required to ensure students receive appropriate overnight support.
  • Working closely with teaching, therapy and residential teams to meet students’ individual needs.
  • Promoting a safe, inclusive and supportive residential environment.
  • Maintaining accurate records and communicating effectively with the wider support team.

What We’re Looking For

  • A 2:2 degree or above in any subject.
  • Experience working with children or young people, particularly those with additional needs.
  • A caring, patient and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A genuine interest in SEND, children’s social care or psychology.
  • Flexibility to work a rota that includes days, evenings, weekends, nights and occasional sleep-in shifts.
  • Previous experience in care or support work is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

What We Offer

  • Full training and ongoing professional development.
  • Valuable experience within a specialist residential college.
  • A supportive management team and welcoming working environment.
  • Opportunities for long-term career progression within education and social care.
  • The chance to make a genuine difference to young people’s lives every day.

Why Join Us?
