SAWS UK is an established engineering company specialising in industrial bandsaws, circular saws, saw blades and associated cutting equipment.
For over 35 years, we have supplied, installed, serviced and repaired industrial sawing machinery for customers throughout the UK. We pride ourselves on providing high quality machinery, practical engineering expertise and dependable after sales support.
Due to continued growth, we are looking for a motivated Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering and service team.
The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent engineering graduate who wants to develop a practical career working with industrial machinery.
The role will provide experience across workshop engineering, machinery preparation, servicing, fault finding, spare parts and customer site support. You will receive practical training and work alongside experienced engineers while developing your technical knowledge and engineering skills.
As your experience develops, you will have the opportunity to take greater responsibility for machinery servicing, repairs, installations and customer site visits.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Engineering
- Assist with the inspection, servicing, repair and rebuilding of industrial machinery
- Support the strip down and reassembly of mechanical components and systems
- Help diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults
- Prepare new and used machinery for delivery and installation
- Carry out pre delivery inspections and functional testing
- Assist with servicing and repairing bandsaws, circular saws and associated equipment
- Use workshop tools, measuring equipment and machinery safely
- Support bandsaw blade production and other workshop activities when required
Technical and Service Support
- Assist with the identification and preparation of spare parts
- Review technical manuals, drawings and parts diagrams
- Support the service team with technical enquiries
- Help maintain accurate service, repair and inspection records
- Assist with stock control and inventory management
- Help ensure pricing, parts and lead times are recorded accurately
Workshop Organisation and Safety
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised workshop
- Ensure tools and test equipment are stored and maintained correctly
- Follow company health and safety procedures at all times
- Assist with regular workshop and equipment safety checks
- Identify opportunities to improve workshop processes and efficiency
Qualifications and Skills
Essential
- Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline
- Strong interest in practical engineering and industrial machinery
- Good mechanical understanding and problem solving skills
- Willingness to develop electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic knowledge
- Ability to read and understand technical information and engineering drawings
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Organised, reliable and willing to learn
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Good basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Full UK driving licence or the ability to obtain one within an agreed period
- Willingness to travel to customer sites when required
Desirable
- Placement year, apprenticeship, workshop or practical engineering experience
- Experience using workshop tools or machinery
- Basic electrical fault finding knowledge
- Knowledge of hydraulic or pneumatic systems
- Experience within engineering, manufacturing, automotive or industrial maintenance
- Familiarity with CAD drawings, technical manuals or electrical diagrams
- Experience gained through university projects, Formula Student, personal projects or practical engineering work
Previous industrial experience is beneficial but not essential, as training will be provided.

The role is designed to develop into a broader Site and Workshop Engineer position, with increasing responsibility for customer visits, machinery repairs, installations and technical support.
